Sneak peak of new Ptarmigan album

BLOG on April 19th, 2011 1 Comment

With the release of Ptarmigan’s second album only days away, those rascally birds have decided to give us all a sneak peak.  Regular Ptarmishowgoers will recognize this one, only it sounds sick as hell with Wil Reeves behind the board.  Enjoy, and we hope to see you there Friday at Mojo’s!

When We Were Captains artwork revealed

BLOG on March 9th, 2011 No Comments

With only two weeks until the release of the long-awaited career retrospective of former best-band-in-local-history Cpt. Captain, those who still mourn the beloved band’s untimely demise can take solace in the sweet sight of that JPEG just north of this paragraph. That’s the never-before-seen cover you’re looking at, further proof that this thing is actually going to happen. March 22 is the day it goes down, in case you don’t already have it tattooed on the back of your hand.

And here’s a little more info from the shadowy abyss of secrecy from which this thing continues to emerge:

Outside of a small handful of compilation releases in 2009 and the band’s zombiefied MySpace page, no record survives Cpt. Captain’s short existence in the no horse town of Columbia, Missouri. That is until March 22, 2011, when Yards & Gods is pleased to finally release When We Were Captains, the authoritative anthology we never knew we needed. Featuring an unrelenting lineup of ten choice cuts, a resale value of exactly zero dollars, and digital liner notes so slick they’ll slide off your screen and onto your floor where your cats will run over and smell them and then slink back to whatever they were doing before the sliding/falling thing, When We Were Captains is the final word on what could have been.

Spanning the band’s entire existence, from the dubious days of Nascar Diarrhea to the surprisingly nautical-pun-bereft sounds of Cpt. Captain, When We Were Captains stands as a definitive document of one of the most promising and fertile periods in the history of the Columbia, MO, music scene. Latecomers will marvel at what they missed, those who were there will bask in the sad glow of what was and will never be again, and the band itself will reap millions in royalties and inevitable licensing deals. These ten songs will set the record straight, rightfully placing Cpt. Captain once and for all in the highest echelon of local rock and roll royalty.

Get your free download and conclude for yourself that damnit, Cpt. Captain was the best goddamn band in town at www.yardsandgods.com.

JOWLZ @ the Clash of the Titans VI Finals

Uncategorized on July 20th, 2010 No Comments

Somehow, we moved on to the Eastside Tavern Clash of the Titans VI battle of the bands finals after our unexpected win last Saturday, so we’ve got a shot at the $1,000 grand prize. Either way, we’re happy people enjoyed our first show enough to move us on, and we’d be honored if you could come …out and support us again.

The address:
Eastside Tavern
1016 East Broadway
Columbia, MO

Jowlz is:
Billy Haring
Josh Cochran (Flight, the Pale Family, the Makeouts, Capt. Captain)
Ryan Murphy (Flight, the Pale Family, the Makeouts)
Ted Sharp (Flight, the Pale Family, the Makeouts, Capt. Captain)
Zach Biri (Nonreturner, Prize Wolf, Black Fax)

Winning would mean we wouldn’t have to bankroll recording our first album/EP, or do it all on our own, so for those of you who asked where you could hear more, or hear recordings, this is your chance to help make those happen.

Thanks for your support!

Y&G Ball, September 25th at Eastside!

BLOG on July 12th, 2010 No Comments

Mark your Calendars–Yards and Gods Fall Ball is Coming on September 25th at Eastside Tavern!

Get out your fancy pants or dress and some dancing shoes because the Yards & Gods Fall Ball is hitting Eastside Tavern on September 25th! We’re giving you plenty of advanced notice on this one so you can labor over asking out potential dates, getting rejected multiple times and piecing together the raddest dress or suit on the planet (though all of this is completely optional).

For this special night to remember, we’re going to turn Columbia’s favorite sci-fi/horror themed bar into a magical land of romance–complete with rose petals and whatever fancy decorations we craft up. If dancing’s not your bag, come for the pre-spiked Pants’ Punch, a raffle with lots of freebies, and an onslaught of live music from your favorite Y&G bands.
See you there!

‘Taint Dangerous, a taint haiku blog

BLOG on February 8th, 2010 1 Comment

Recently, a few of us started up an outlet for us to collect and share an art form that has enriched our lives for some time now.  ‘Taint Dangerous is a collective of (so far) five poets deeply in touch and in tune with their taints.  The first post says it better than I could:

A blog for our taint
is where our taint talent sweats
the need to be seen

-Dan

Welcome all, to the internet’s finest (and certainly its classiest) venue for haiku concerning the perineum. We here at ‘Taint Dangerous feel that the taint is the most precious and wonderful of body parts, and often gets overlooked  by its sexier and grosser companions, the genitals and the anus. We’re here to celebrate one of the most underrated body parts in the only way we find appropriate:  haiku. These verses can range from tender to downright pornographic. But we feel taint no crime to write like this, because sometimes its the darn truth. Enjoy, and don’t be shy!

Please make ‘Taint Dangerous a part of your GReader, RSS reader, or daily visiting habits, and keep an eye out for a possible physical collection of taint haiku coming this fall!

I think I figured out this whole blogging thing!

After a month of recovering from hangovers and getting used to living in this brave new decade, we here at Y&G have gotten off of our collective asses and have started putting this place back together.  It’s been a long, drawn out move, and I’d like to personally thank Cullan Springstead for hooking us up with our old hosting and putting together our home for the past year.  I’d also like to thank Ted Carstensen, drummer from label-bros Ptarmigan, for putting this new hotness together.

I hope everyone who was able made it out to Arthurian Honey‘s very first show.  They’ve got an EP in the works, and we expect it is going to be a pretty magical affair. On a sidenote, if anyone has any awesome photos from that show, please send them to me.

Ptarmigan is, according to sources, back in Wil Reeves’s Centro Cellar Studio.  Keep an eye on ptarmiganmediaconcern.com, because I’m sure we’re on the cusp of an awesome release by those guys as well.

You’ll be seeing plenty of changes here with the possibility of broken links/images, temporary placeholders, and lots of other embarrassing things so bear with us, and thanks for your interest and support over the past couple of years!
